Quarantine Programing

Hey Waterside Family-

I wanted to cover a few nuggets related to programming as it relates to our current situation. This has obviously been tough on all of our ‘gains’- at least our lifting numbers- and we understand that garage gym set-ups are rare. For me, this has been a great reminder of what CrossFit has been about since Day 1: getting fit and healthy, and keeping it simple while doing it.

Since being forced home by the pandemic, we’ve offered two tracks of programming: workouts that use equipment and workouts that use little-to-no equipment. We want to give our community as many options as possible based on the workout gear you may or may not have.

One thing the quarantine has caused us to be limited by is the ‘priority’ of the workouts. Because of the YouTube Live format, we’ve moved to most of our workouts being what we refer to in CrossFit as “time priority”-style. In time priority workouts, the amount of time is fixed and it is up to the athlete to complete as much work as the time will allow (aka As Many Rounds As Possible). The off-shoot to this style is an EMOM, where the amount of reps per minute may or may not be fixed. In both examples, athletes adhere to the clock and complete the given tasks within the assigned timeframe.

We’ve made this move to make sure no one gets too far ahead of or too far behind the live stream. It is an adjustment we’ve made to keep everyone together during our live online classes. On rare occasions during the program that uses gym equipment, we’ve had athletes complete “task priority” workouts, otherwise known as “For Time”. These classes tend to have less athletes during the live streams so we feel more comfortable allowing for more wiggle room in that situation.

Having said all of this, we know each individual situation is different. If you want more programming, less programming, harder programming, easier programming, or something to be adjusted within the current programming, PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out to one of your coaches! We can all help ensure you are getting the most out of your membership during these uncertain times and guarantee you are able to continue to hit the nasty but fun CrossFit workouts you’ve become accustomed to at CrossFit Waterside. Our goal of keeping you all fit and healthy and happy has never wavered and we will always be here to help you accomplish the goals you’ve set for yourself. Keep getting after it! You all are making us so proud.
