Health Essentials: Are You Getting Enough Sleep?

Study after study shows that sleep has a major effect on your health, and here at your favorite Orlando gyms, we believe in the importance of sleep in fitness. There are so many benefits to getting enough sleep on your fitness journey. When you have enough sleep, you are setting your body and mind up for success. And sleep and fitness are very intertwined, meaning sleep benefits your fitness and exercise benefit your sleep! Read on for more reasons why getting enough sleep can ensure the success of your health and fitness goals!

Anxiety and Stress Don’t Pair Well With Health

Sleep is a proven deterrent to stress and anxiety – that’s why getting enough sleep can help reduce your stress and help you feel more motivated to get your body moving. And when you get your body moving, your body produces endorphins – a natural “happy” chemical in your body that also fights stress and anxiety. So, if you start to notice your stress and anxiety rising, have a check-in with your sleep and your exercise – your body and mind will thank you!

Bad Sleep Can Mean a Bad Workout

A common battle for many people is the battle between waking up early to workout or squeezing in some extra “Zs.” And there really is no right or wrong solution to that battle. Though, the healthiest way to solve that equation is based on how much sleep you’re getting in a night. If you got around 8 hours of sleep that night, waking up early for a workout is a great idea and a great option for getting your body moving first thing in the morning. But, if you got 6 or fewer hours of sleep, it’s probably best to catch up on your rest. If you try to push your body to workout when it’s sleep-deprived, you could be doing more damage than good – it’s not always worth it!

The Recovery Is Just As Important As the Exercise

Sleep is a natural way our body heals itself – whether that’s physical or mental healing. That’s why sleeping is a great tool your body requires to heal from your workouts and everything your body goes through in a day. When you sleep, your body has time to recover, conserve energy, and repair and build up the muscles worked during exercise. This allows your body to maximize its strength and energy for your next physical exercise, maximizing your workouts. Getting enough sleep is essential to making the most of your workouts and your fitness journey.

At the end of the day, your body needs a break. And when you give your body enough time to sleep, your body rewards you with better focus, maximized workouts, and a healthier mind – all of which are important to achieving success on your fitness journey. So, now is a great time to check-in with yourself: Are you getting between 7 and 8 hours of sleep at night? There is so much that goes into a successful fitness journey and taking care of your body and mind is at the root of them all.
